The search never truly ended.

Neither did the questions.

But something had changed.

The urgency had slowly given way to trust.

The need to arrive had softened into a willingness simply to continue.

There was no moment of enlightenment.

No final answer waiting quietly at the end of the road.

Life remained exactly as it had always been.

Sometimes beautiful.

Sometimes painful.

Often mysterious.

The difference was no longer found in the world around him.

It was found in the way he walked through it.

The longing that had once felt like an absence gradually became something else.

A companion.

Not something to escape…

…but something to listen to.

Questions no longer demanded immediate answers.

Some were never answered at all.

Strangely…

…that became enough.

There was freedom in not knowing.

Freedom in allowing mystery to remain mystery.

Looking back, every departure had offered the same lesson.

Leaving home.

Australia.

New Zealand.

None had provided what they promised.

Yet each had quietly revealed something far more valuable.

The journey had never really been across oceans.

It had always been inward.

Perhaps home had never been a place waiting to be found.

Perhaps it had always been a way of travelling.

A way of meeting life.

A way of trusting the next step, even when the path disappeared beyond the horizon.

Each step quietly made the next one possible.

The search had not led to certainty.

It had led to trust.

The search had not come to an end.

Neither had the journey.

But for the first time…

…there was no desire for either to end.

There was only gratitude…

…that they had begun.

The story began many years ago.

It continues to unfold.

The young boy…

The young man…

…was me.

This is where the journey has brought me.

So far.

Dedicated to the memory of my mother and father, who never stood in my way.
