Thank you

Dear reader,

If you’ve come this far, I have a feeling we may be kindred spirits.

A love of truth.

A curiosity that refuses to settle for easy answers.

A willingness to question beliefs—including our own.

Whatever brought you here…

…thank you for walking this journey with me.

Occasionally people have asked me what it felt like to leave England in the 1980s with little money, no real plan, and no friends or family waiting on the other side of the world.

It was a very different time.

There were no mobile phones.

No GPS.

No internet.

No easy money transfers.

Speaking to home meant finding a telephone and hoping someone would be there to answer it.

Once the aircraft left the runway, there was very little connection to the life I’d left behind.

In many ways…

…leaving really meant leaving.

Was it risky?

Perhaps.

Was it reckless?

I never thought so.

The truth is, I never felt I had much choice.

If I’d stayed…

…I don’t think I could ever have forgiven myself.

Staying felt far more reckless than leaving.

Boarding that plane didn’t fill me with fear.

For the first time in my life…

…I felt truly alive.

Looking back now…

…I don’t think I was searching for another country.

I was searching for a way of being.

The countries mattered.

The people mattered.

The experiences mattered.

But they were never the destination.

They were the path.

The unknown never frightened me as much as the known.

The six-year-old had no words for it.

The twenty-four-year-old listened anyway.

I haven’t written these pages to persuade you of anything.

If anything in these pages has echoed something in your own life…

…perhaps that’s enough.

If you’ve ever carried that same quiet longing…

…if you’ve ever sensed there was something more…

…if you’ve ever felt drawn toward a home you couldn’t quite name…

You’re not alone.

Perhaps what we’ve been searching for all along is less about becoming…

…and more about remembering.

Wherever your own path leads…

…I wish you well.

With gratitude,

Howard
