Turning Inward
Life gradually found its rhythm.
There was work.
Friendships.
Laughter.
Bills to pay.
Places to live.
Dreams that came and went.
From the outside, everything appeared to be moving in the right direction.
And much of it was.
The young man had discovered something important.
He could begin again.
He could leave everything behind and build a new life if he had to.
Twice he had done exactly that.
Yet the quiet longing that first appeared in childhood had never disappeared.
It had simply become harder to hear beneath the noise of everyday life.
Like many people, he searched for ways to quiet it.
Some brought moments of happiness.
Some brought distraction.
Some brought excitement.
Some simply postponed the questions.
For a while, each seemed enough.
Eventually, each one faded.
It wasn’t that life was unhappy.
Far from it.
There were adventures.
Love.
Successes.
Disappointments.
Moments of joy.
Life unfolded as it always does.
Yet every now and then, usually in the quieter moments…
…the old companion returned.
The longing.
Gradually he began to wonder whether it was not something to solve…
…but something to understand.
That possibility changed everything.
Until then, the search had always led outward.
New countries.
New experiences.
New beginnings.
Almost without noticing…
…it began to turn inward.
The questions themselves were changing.
He found himself asking less about what he should do…
…and more about who, or what, was asking the question.
He had no idea where those questions would lead.
He only knew they refused to leave him.
For the first time…
…that no longer felt like a problem.
